I lived for a few years in the town of Salem Ontario in the early 1980’s and right across the road was a wonderful little pottery called Gordon Pottery. Robert Gordon pottery had a very distinct look, with grey background, brown trim and whimsical blue flowers on most pieces.

They actually created dinnerware sets, open stock, you could go in and buy a plate at a time if you wanted to. Probably the most memorable works from this potter where his “frog mugs”. A cute little crouching frog was created from clay and sat in the bottom of  the coffee mugs! The idea being that when you drank the coffee, this little guy would suddenly appear…wonder how many mugs got thrown as the drinker was startled!!

Definitely a huge fixture and part of the Elora charm, Gordon Pottery pieces are now sought after as collectible vintage pottery.
